Talking Points

10 points for the story.

01 — Self-taught since age 10

Jonatan began teaching himself to paint as a child in Nicaragua with no formal training, no art school, and no mentors. Everything he knows, he learned by doing.

02 — Discovered by an American entrepreneur

Daniel Gupta found Jonatan's work while traveling in Nicaragua in 2013. He became Jonatan's first serious collector and long-term collaborator.

03 — Also an architect and engineer

When Daniel asked what they could build together, Jonatan revealed a complete set of self-taught skills in architecture and engineering. He designs, plans, and builds infrastructure from the ground up.

04 — Has personally built schools and water systems

More than 20 humanitarian projects completed across Nicaragua and Niger. Jonatan was the person on the ground for every one of them: managing construction, directing workers, solving engineering problems.

05 — Art funds outcomes for 10,000+ people

Water systems for thousands. Schools for more than 1,000 students. Playgrounds, libraries, and economic empowerment programs. Every number is documented.

06 — Brought from Nicaragua with his family

In 2024, Daniel relocated Jonatan, his wife, and his children to Bloomington, Indiana. A full-life relocation, not a short-term visit.

07 — The garage mural: 7 months, 2 artists

Jonatan's first major US project was a residential mural that has become a Bloomington landmark. Social media content of the house and mural has reached over 500,000 views.

08 — First major US public mural is launching

The IU Championship Mural will feature the IAP Foundation mark, directly connecting public art to humanitarian impact.

09 — Half the Impact Truck is his art

The fully wrapped Freightliner Sport Chassis P4 XL is covered in original artwork by Jonatan and Gyuri Lohmuller. It draws more attention than any supercar on the streets of Miami.

10 — Art Basel Miami 2025 was his national premiere

Exhibited at WEAM and Bar Tulio (where a drink was named after him and he painted live). Solo feature at Friendship Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. Work accepted into the permanent art collection of The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University.
